News from the Infirmary & Sean's Stats

This picture is obviously sideways, but that is how we have been feeling around here lately. You'll just have to turn your head sideways...
Well, I have not been able to post anything lately because Connor, Sean, and Motma have been sick. The boys have had fevers, coughs and colds...not much sleep at night! Motma skipped the fever and went straight to the cough! It has been all hands on deck, and still is actually.
However, Sean did have his 6 month doctor's visit today (no shots, though, due to recent fever) and here are his stats:
Weight: 17 lbs. 5 oz. (50%)
Height: 28 inches (99%)
Head: 75%
The doctor said he looked great and that he is long and lean the way he likes them. We had a "back from retirement" doctor today, not our regular pediatrician. Today's doc had been in peds for 40 years. He was great. Sean goes back on Monday for his shots.

Sean is 6 months!

Here is Sean showing off his sitting skills. He is very steady now and can deliberately go forward on to his stomach or ease onto his back. Very sweet.

Connor and Sean love to be together. Sean smiles whenever Connor walks near and yearns for his smile or kind word.

Sean loves to play with his feet. Last weekend we visisted our dear friends and Sean enjoyed sitting on their chair like a big guy. Then he enjoyed rolling over and almost falling off the chair... luckily he has good catchers for parents and there was no harm done.

Tummy time is still a favorite time for Sean. Here he is on the bed at our friends' house enjoying some teething toys. He has finally figured out how to put his head down and rest a bit. Until now, he had only held his head up while on his tummy.

Firehouse Fieldtrip

Connor's preschool took a trip to the new firehouse in our area. Connor got to sit on Fireman Howie's lap in the fire engine! He was very brave and enjoyed checking out all the dials and pumps.



Connor's teacher and another firefighter helped him climb down the other side of the pumper truck.


Just as the fireman was finishing our tour and demo, a call came in. We had to stand outside on the grass as the two vehicles left with lights and sirens. It was a cool ending. We could see south 101 backing up and knew they were headed to help. By the time we dispersed, the freeway was clear.

Sean's Milestones

Sean now can:
sit up by himself with pretty good balance
eat barley, oatmeal, pears, peaches, peas, carrots, squash, and sweet potatoes
blow kisses
sleep 5 hours at night and sometimes up to 7.5 hours
squeal quite loudly to compete with Connor
put his arms out when he wants to be held
roll to a desired destination
pivot on his stomach to see the action or reach a toy that he wants
play in his exersaucer

He is a mellow fellow and rarely cries. Although lately he seems to be teething in earnest and is showing signs of discomfort.

Random Connor Quotes

"Mom, I want to watch the Pyramid episode. I watched it yesterday tomorrow, so we can put it on now."

(Apparently this is a Little Einsteins show that we do not have on DVD. Since we no longer have the Disney channel, this request was impossible to honor).

"Mom, it's not time for me to use the potty now-- it's past 8."

All of the above quotations are from this morning. I think I better take off his Thomas underpants and put the diaper back on. Oh, well he'll be ready someday. (Today is not that day).

Sean's Kisses

For all of Sean's life, I have kissed him every time I have picked him up. A couple weeks ago, I noticed that every time I walk into his room to get him out of his crib he looks at me and makes kissing sounds. Big smackers, actually. At first I thought it was a coincidence, but now I know it is intentional. Whenever he wants a kiss, he makes the sound, too. We have started to ask for "kisses" now, and he almost always responds with a pucker and smooch. It is sooo cute! He seems to be proud of himself and smiles like he knows he is doing something to communicate with us.

Playtime in the Kauai Condo

Connor and one of my best friend's daughter, Lulu, had great fun reading together in T-Rex Mountain. The two, who are almost two years apart, played any chance they got. She would run down the hall so Connor would chase her. Connor ran slowly to avoid actually catching her. I loved watching them play because she reminds me so much of Connor at that age, never a dull moment and always on the go!

Kauai birthdays

One unusual thing about our group of friend is that 3 people all have the same birthday in January! My dear friend Sacha, my son Connor, and my goddaughter Odessa (Sacha's daughter). So,of course, we had to celebrate while we were all together! We got a huge cake from Costco, and we sang to each person separately! Here are a couple pictures of the birthday celebration.

Here is Sacha standing with Chris and Sean. Chris is also a January bday, but not on the same day as the other three. We did sing to him, too, of course!


Connor just sat and smiled when everyone sang to him. He does not enjoy being the center of so much attention. (He loves being the center of MY attention, which is not always possible). He loves the idea of his birthday, though, and he loved the cake!

Little Odessa celebrated her FIRST birthday with us that day! She is such a cutie! Although it was not Christmas, she did get her two front teeth for her birthday-OUCH! She loved her cake, too!

THE CAKE with a 1 for Odessa and 3 little polka-dot candles for Connor's 3 years was delicious!

Superbowl Sunday

Motma is definitely the biggest football fan in the house! She made us choose teams and bet on spreads. Chris won, so Motma and I have to take him to lunch. Here she is holding Sean during the game.


On Sunday, we had Connor's best buddy Tyler over with his parents to watch the game, which really meant to supervise Connor and Tyler in the backyard. However, I think we were able to watch much more of the game than if the boys hadn't had each other for entertainment.

Our Kauai Vacation

In mid-January we went to Kauai with my dear friends and former college roommates, their husbands and children. There were 10 adults and 7 children ages 3 years to 4 months. We all stayed in a 5 bedroom condo, and made it work so that everyone could do some things they wanted to. Each couple got to go on a date, while another couple watched the children. The next few posts will give details about our Kauai trip.

Chris and I went up to Waimea Canyon on our "date" day. The view was great that day and we could see forever!



"T-Rex Mountain"
Connor immediately named the beaded curtain in the background "T-Rex Mountain", and by the end of the week, everyone referred to it that way. The children who could walk, ran through the beads any chance they got. Here, Connor and Daddy are preparing for the pool. Connor swam and went to the children's beach pretty much everyday!


Sean and our friend Kate hung out on the condo floor a fair amount. It is so great that babies this age don't care that much when someone "borrows" a toy. Sean is such a mellow baby and he spent much of his time watching all the action from the floor. We was the youngest baby by 3 weeks, but the crawlers and walkers were surprisingly careful not to step on the immobile infants.
